I approach my work as a data science. I initiate my process with research; I deliberate what data visualizations will best articulate my findings and thereby select a medium, or several, to facilitate a demonstration of the results; and then, I make work with the intent to shape this information into insight.

The overlying theme in my work is hospitality. My passion for a service based aesthetic is apparent in the recurring subjects of my work: meal-sharing, collective transportation, housing/hosting, gift economies, interpersonal activity and correspondence. My work often takes the form of an image, specifically a photograph, but I also make work that utilizes social space, sound, and movement. I shoot medium and large format cameras, and digital; in addition, I create digital photographs that are not sourced from film, such as scanned documents (hand written letters or recipe cards), certificates, or digitally produced designs (maps, conference agendas or bookmarks). When crafting social space, I consider the audience, their mobilization, the set design, and the menu. My sound work results in MP3s (for download or inclusion in an installation), while my movement-based work is best understood as post-dance.

A fraction of my practice includes live art. I have performed as a hotel concierge (Hotel Savoy, Boggsville Boatel, Boardroom B&B), private driver, bike messenger, chef (dinner theatre), docent and tour guide. Because I am enamored with gift economies, I am compelled to share these performances at no cost to the viewer, whenever possible. The resulting documentation (e.g. paper materials, photography, video) serves as the artwork, although I favor the argument that the work itself was the interaction between the viewer(s) and myself.
